The good news, is there's this thing called a " headless display adapter". You'll get a black screen and nothing more.įor some reason this never was an issue for me with TeamViewer, but obviously given the circumstances apparently that's not a reliable option any longer. This may not be the case for you, but for many if you don't have a display connected such as you might on a closed laptop or headless PC, you're typically screwed.

This has to do with the way RDP software displays your desktop, and it's typically reliant on your desktop monitor actually being on or your laptop actually being open for your GPU to send video data. I have not found this to be the case with other alternatives (Parsec definitely no, AnyDesk also seems to be no). One very special thing about TeamViewer is it doesn't care if your display is off. There is an important caveat with AnyDesk, Parsec, and maybe Chrome RDP.

Windows RDP - Warning: Exposing your RDP session directly to the internet IS UNSAFE so don't use it if you don't know what you're doing or how to take steps to protect yourself, such as setting up a VPN Parsec - technically game streaming software, attempts to maintain higher framerates but at a loss of clarity when there is a lot of motion on screenĬhrome Remote Desktop - have not used it personally but it is another option I'm posting this as a resource for anyone else having the issue of the "connection blocked after timeout" message that never goes away, and also to complain (of course).ĪnyDesk - probably the most comparable alternative to TeamViewer
